About this site:

This web site is owned and operated by Katherine Loux.  IÕve been the owner of Loux.org for many years now and the sole purpose of this corner of the internet isÉwell, nothing really.  I just host my web page here and provide free email aliases and accounts for people who share my last name.  My extended family after a fashion.

The name:

Those in the United States who bear the name Laux, Loux, Lauck, Laucks, or, Loucks descend from a common ancestor, the father of Philip and Nicholas Laux, Palatinates, who came to the American colonies in the emigration of 1710.

The origin of the family is recorded in the ancient chronicles of the region on either side of the Pyrenees, in the extreme southeast of France.  The head of the family as traced being Inigo Lope du Laux, Seigneur de Biscaye and Count of Alava, who had two sons, one of whom, Guillaume Sanche du Laux, being the founder of the house or family from whom all those bearing the name of Laux and all of its permutations descend.

The variant spelling Loux, is primarily found in the French region of Alsace and Lorraine, on the border of Germany. Caught in the wars between France and Germany, Alsace and Lorraine have changed nationality four times since 1871. My particular branch of the family originates there, in Alsace France.

Notable figures sharing the name Loux include artist Henri Loux who lived from 1875 to 1907, and bears a striking resemblence to one of my brothers. Looks aren't all we have in common with Henri. Short lifespan, and artistic talents abound in the Southern Ohio (Cincinnati) branch of the Loux family. My father Carl, sister Carla, and brother Gregory are (and were, with respect to my father), very gifted artists. While we have all demonstrated a flair for cooking, sadly I don't share the same talents as my siblings with regard to painting and drawing. My artistic talents are better suited to photography, sculpting, and carving. (One of my photos shown at the right.)
